Kumin Tsuyuri (五月七日(つゆり) くみん Tsuyuri Kumin?) is one of the main characters of the Japanese anime, Chūnibyō Demo Koi ga Shitai!, who also appears in the light novels, but not until Volume 3.[1]

She is also a founding member of the club Rikka Takanashi formed named as Far Eastern Magic Napping Society of Summer.

Character Outline[]

Kumin is in the second year of high school student attending Icho Private High School. She likes napping very much and she considers it her hobby. In her first year, she tried to form a "Nap Club" at her school but failed because no one was interested in joining, during her second year she met Rikka Takanashi and Yuuta Togashi, which she agreed to join their club. Kumin is generally very laid-back and rather naïve, which is probably at least partly because she was home-schooled for many years.

Background[]

Kumin lives with her family and went overseas for her dad’s work after kindergarten. She was subsequently home-schooled until high school, and due to being overprotected by her family, she is innocent and naïve, with old-fashioned ladylike ethics and behavior. In her second year of high school, she collaborates with Rikka Takanashi's plan to create a club, and managed to form the nap club, albeit in a heavily modified form.

Appearance[]

Kumin has dark pink eyes and short dark brown hair. She has very fair skin and a small mole on her right breast.

Personality[]

Kumin is a very friendly but rather pure and innocent girl who loves sleeping so much that she brings a pillow with her almost everywhere she goes. After getting along with Rikka Takanashi and Sanae Dekomori, she tries to understand their delusions and always supports their activities despite her own lack of understanding. After Makoto Isshiki has his head shaved as his self-decided punishment for polling the girls' ratings among the boys in his class, Kumin liked to feel his bald head out of curiosity. She also enjoys scenes where fighting and horror occurs. In Season 2, she decides that she wants to be funny like Nibutani, often cracking puns that no one laughs at.

Plot[]

Season 1[]

Kumin joins Rikka's club, where she naps regularly.

In the last episode of Season 1, she becomes the Tyrant's Eye in Rikka's stead since now her powers are gone. She tells Yuuta that he is the reason Rikka became a chuunibyou, and that it couldn't have been anybody else.

Season 2[]

She suggests that Yuuta and Rikka elope in other to prevent Touka taking Rikka to Italy.

Near the end where Rikka has conflict within herself, She along with Shichimiya travel all the way to Aomori to help out. She says that it's a matter between Yuuta and Rikka to discuss.

Etymology[]

  • Kumin's surname Tsuyuri means "five" (五) , "moon" (月), "seven" (七) and "sun, day" (日).
    • Tsuyuri is an unusual reading for Kumin's family name 五月七日; Yuuta Togashi initially pronounces this as the far more common "gogatsu nanoka", meaning "May 7th".

Quotes[]

  • "Do you nap? Huh? It's nice. A sunny day is perfect weather for napping. I'm Kumin Tsuyuri, nice to meet you!"
  • "Yep! It's sunny today so I brought my sunny spring day pillow. I dream about grassy meadows when I use it."

Trivia[]

  • Kumin is one of the many characters not to appear in the light novel until Volume 3 [1].
